  • "On April 21, 2025, the Islamic State released a video in the Arabic language accusing al-Sharaa and its transition government of apostasy and calling the local fighters to 'embrace the true Islam.'"
  • In India, "BJP national general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam said the [Waqf] Act was aimed at transforming waqf properties into welfare institutions benefiting the Muslim community, without interfering with religious beliefs."
  • "During the 45th AlBaraka Islamic Economics Symposium in Madina, two organizations – the AlBaraka Forum for Islamic Economy and Spectreco LLC, a US-based sustainability and technology firm – signed an agreement to launch what they call the world's first Shariah-compliant ESG Index[.]"
  • "Kuwait has approved a draft law to abolish Article 182 of the Penal Code, which previously allowed a kidnapper to escape punishment if he legally married his victim with the consent of her guardian."

  • The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has expressed its intention to challenge the Supreme Court's recent verdict that allows divorced Muslim women to claim maintenance from their former husbands beyond the iddat (waiting) period.
  • "The Bombay High Court [recently] observed that religion is only one of the considerations in deciding child custody matters and not an overriding factor."
  • "The Bombay High Court ruled that the Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, which criminalizes the practice of instant triple talaq, is applicable only to the specific form of talaq known as Talaq-e-Bidat—a form of instantaneous and irrevocable divorce."
  • "An Islamic legal scholar told the Durban regional court [South Africa] that Moulana Sajid Makki, who is on trial for indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl, should have known better when he was alone with the girl in his flat, as that was forbidden in Islamic law."
  • "In Kano State, a Muslim-majority state in northern Nigeria, strict blasphemy laws carry punishments as severe as the death penalty for insulting Prophet Muhammad. The ECOWAS [Economic Community of West African States] court has now called for the laws to be repealed, and declared them to be in violation of international human rights obligations."
