On Islamic Law

  • In "Between Law and Politics: Islamic Judges in the South Indian Littoral, 1808–1885" (Law and History Review), Saumyashree Ghosh (Yale Law School) "offers a fresh account of the colonial processes that upended Muslim juridical regimes in South Asia between 1808 and 1885."
  • In Inside Salafi-Jihadist Governance: The Strategies and Characteristics of Islamist Insurgent Rule (Columbia University Press), Marta Furlan (University of St Andrews) "assesses whether there is a single model of Salafi-jihadist governance, the degree to which ideology and doctrine inform the behavior of rebel rulers, and the similarities and differences between Salafi-jihadists and other armed nonstate groups."

On Islam and AI/Data Science

  • In "Noor: A Pipeline Framework for Classical Arabic Parsing" (IEEE Access), Wadee A. Nashir (Digital Dhad) and others announce "the creation and public release of the Quranic Treebank—the first complete, validated, and fully machine-readable hybrid syntactic resource for [classical Arabic], reconstructed and augmented using the Noor framework."
  • In "Hybrid Retrieval-Augmented Generation for Islamic Knowledge Question Answering" (QIAS 2025), Muhammad Abu Ahmad (University of Osnabrück) and others "developed a hybrid retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system that combines sparse and dense retrieval methods with cross-encoder reranking to improve large language model (LLM) performance" on tasks involving "Islamic knowledge understanding and reasoning."
