Contributors include Mohammed Abdelrahem (Al-Azhar University), Ahmad Atif Ahmad (UC Santa Barbara), Maha El-Kaisy (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität), Mohammed Fadel (University of Toronto), Ramon Harvey (Cambridge Muslim College), Serdar Kurnaz (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin), Abdul Rahman Mustafa (Universität Paderborn), Najah Nadi (Cambridge Muslim College) and David Vishanoff (University of Oklahoma).
On Islam and AI/Data Science - In "Binary Logic as Legal Algorithm: Computational Evidence of Systematic Decision-Making in Ottoman Sheikh al-Islam Fatwas" (DiHA: Journal of Interdisciplinary Legal Studies), Ali Çetinkaya (Selçuk University) "establishes that nearly 87% of rulings follow binary prohibition/permission logic" and argues that "such systematic patterns, developed centuries before digital computing, suggest that algorithmic legal reasoning may represent an ancient practice rather than a modern innovation."
- In "Recognizing AI as a Legal Person in Iranian Law and Imāmiyya Fiqh" (Oxford Intersections: AI in Society Oxford Intersections: AI in Society, Oxford University Press), Mohammad Javad Zolghadr (Tarbiat Modares University) and Morteza Shahbazinia (Tarbiat Modares University) "illuminate the divergent perspectives and approaches toward AI personhood in two distinct legal traditions, aiming to identify the legal entities these two jurisdictions used to—legally—recognize a person." FIELD GUIDE TO ISLAMIC LAW ONLINE: RECENT SOURCES The Field Guide to Islamic Law Online is an ever-growing collection of links to hundreds of primary sources and archival collections around the world, online. We recently added a new resource to this list: - The Library of Congress hosts "Islamic Manuscripts from Mali," an online collection of "over 30 digitized manuscripts from the Mamma Haidara Commemorative Library and the Library of Cheick Zayni Baye of Boujbeha, both located in Timbuktu, Mali." The collection "showcases the wide variety of subjects covered by the written traditions of Timbuktu, Mali, and West Africa. The manuscripts are written in various styles of the Arabic script that were developed in Timbuktu and the surrounding regions of Mali and West Africa, and have long been recognized by Malians as an important look into their cultural heritage."
