  • In "From Custodianship to Control: The Conflict Around Sacred Sites in the Eastern Mediterranean" (The Wire, June 12, 2025), K.M. Seethi (Mahatma Gandhi University), focusing on the situation in Egypt, argues that "[i]n recent years, sacred sites across the Eastern Mediterranean have become flashpoints in a broader conflict between religious heritage and state power."
  • In "Public Interest (Maslahat) in Shiʿi Theocracy: Implications for Legal and Political Decision-Making" (Iranian Studies, June 13, 2025), Bahman Khodadadi (Program in Islamic Law) "offers a comprehensive analysis of maslahat within Iran's legal system, exploring its mechanisms, applications, and implications, and highlighting its complex role in both advancing and potentially challenging the principles of Islamic law."
  • In "Grounding the idea of renewal in Islamic thought, and collective iḥyā': a study from the perspectives of the philosophy of religion and fiqh" (Humanities and Social Sciences Communications 12, June 17, 2025), Hüsamettin Yıldırım and Esra Gülengül (Firat University, Turkey) "aim[] to establish a holistic framework for rationally grounding the idea of renewal in Islam, specifically through the concept of iḥyāʾ."

On Islam and AI/Data Science

  • In "The effectiveness of artificial intelligence in Qur'an and Hadith research" (Al-Muhajirin 1, no. 1 (2025)), Abdul Aziz Shutadi (UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta) argues that "[i]n the study of the Qur'an and Hadith, researchers are increasingly leveraging AI technologies despite ongoing concerns regarding credibility, interpretive accuracy, and potential bias."
