SCHOLARSHIP ROUNDUP

On Islamic Law

  • In "The Relevance of Justice Principles in Islamic Law to Address Social Inequality in the Digital Era" (Journal of the American Institute 2, no. 1 (2025)), Siti Ropiah (Haji Agus Salim Islamic College of Cikarang, Bekasi, Indonesia) argues that "[s]ocial inequality that occurs in the digital era is a significant global challenge, especially in the context of legal justice and resource distribution. The principle of justice in Islamic law ('adl) offers a solution to address this injustice through a moral and welfare-based approach."
  • In "Legal Sanction in Islamic Law and International Law: A Comparative Examination" (Journal of Religion and the Contemporary World, January 25, 2025), Ali Arab and Mehdiy Narimany (Mofid University, Qom, Iran) argue that "[c]ontrary to the assumption that Islamic legal sanctions are limited to otherworldly punishments and are of no utility for the international legal system, the Islamic legal sanctions have various pedagogical; compensational; individually, socially, and internationally retributive; genetic and statuary; and worldly and otherworldly dimensions, each of which has many instances cited in Quranic verses and hadiths."

On Islam and AI/Data Science

  • In "Optimizing Artificial Intelligence in Fiduciary Supervision Systems in Accordance with Islamic Legal Principles" (Petita: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Hukum dan syariah 10, no. 1 (2025)), Wazin (UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten, Banten, Indonesia) and others "explore[] the optimization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in fiduciary supervision systems aligned with Islamic law principles."
