Ramadan Mubarak to all fellows and supporters of the Muslim Institute
An Appeal: Saliha Sardar Trust for Special Needs Children (SST).
Many of you will have met and known Saliha Sardar, a long-time stalwart of the Muslim Institute and beloved wife of Institute trustee and editor of Critical Muslim Ziauddin Sardar.
Saliha Sardar was a special needs teaching assistant in London, and was planning to start a charity for special needs children. But God took her in His benevolent embrace a few months before she was due to retire in January 2023.
In her memory, and to honour her wish, her family and friends have set up the Saliha Sardar Trust for Special Needs Children (SST).
The Trust will support children in Brent and Barnet, north London, particularly the school where Saliha worked. Most – almost 90% - of the special needs children in Brent and Barnet are Muslims from refugee background. From Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Palestine, and Afghanistan. The Trust will give small grants between £500 to £2000 to individual children to help purchase much needed equipment, such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, sensory apparatus, or pay for urgently needed therapy.
You may wish to consider giving your zakat this Ramadan to the SST. This would enable it to start supporting children by the beginning of the next school year in September 2025. A website is being launched soon where donations can be made. For now, the money can be put directly in the Trust's bank account. The trust will keep donors informed of how much it has raised and what the money is being spent on.
You can donate directly into this account: Account Name: Saliha Sardar Trust for Special Needs Children Bank: Lloyds Bank Sort code: 30-99-50 Account no: 67143863 IBAN: GB36LOYD30995067143863 BIC: LOYDGB21287
The Saliha Sardar Trust For Special Needs Children Ltd is a registered charity. Charity number: 1209063.
