Glaucoma UK, in collaboration with BIMA and MCB
| Glaucoma UK and British Muslim Magazine urge Muslims to continue using eye drops during Ramadan | Glaucoma UK, in collaboration with the British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA) and the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), has launched their annual information campaign which urges Muslims with glaucoma to make eye drops as part of their Ramadan routine. The Ramadan period is expected to fall on 28 February to 30 March this year. During this sacred month for Muslims, they observe a religious practice that entails fasting from dawn until sunset. The fast is traditionally broken after the evening prayer and sunset, often celebrated with gatherings of family and friends. The campaign encourages those who are fasting for Ramadan to continue using their eye drops as prescribed during the holy month, as stopping the eye drops even for a short period of time can cause irreversible sight loss. It is important for Muslim glaucoma patients to note that according to the majority of Islamic scholars, eye drops are not considered to break the fast. For anyone who is worried about using their eye drops during fasting hours, the organisations are encouraging them to use their drops between Iftar and Suhoor.
