    "argu[ing] that while both Anglo-American and Islamic legal scholars largely approved the forced appropriation of property in some circumstances, these takings were based on fundamentally different views of property law and of the state's relationship with it."
  • In "Courts in the Midst of Conflict: Social Conflict and Legal Institutions" (Democracy and Security, January 6, 2025), Joseph M. Cox (Stetson University) and Matthew R. Cobb (Coastal Carolina University), "[a]nalyzing countries across Africa,"  "find that courts are best able to reduce social conflict risk when they are more independent or when they have civil or Islamic law institutions, as opposed to common law. "
