  • In Malaysia, "[a]ny individual wronged when an engagement is called off due to the partner's refusal to proceed with the marriage has the right to take legal action" under the country's Islamic family law.
  • In Malaysia, "[in] recent weeks, the management of Islam in Malaysia has come into sharp focus, sparking confusion and debate among various segments of society."

CASES AND FATWĀS

  • The Pahang Mufti Department in Malaysia, in a recent fatwā, and in consultation with the state's Islamic Law Consultative Committee, "has declared that the followers of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) as heretical and deviant[.]"
  • In Malaysia, a muftī issued a fatwā holding that "dowry is defined as anything beneficial and valuable, such as money, goods, or something of use, making it clear that using the chant [Aurad Muhammadiah] as dowry contradicts Islamic law. [He] added that dowry is a compulsory gift a husband must give his wife as part of the marriage contract."
