  • "Kenya's growing appetite for ethical and Sharia-compliant business models took centre stage at the 2nd Edition of the Sharia Compliance and Halal Business Expo" in Nairobi.
  • "The Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan (CBA) announced that Islamic banking products will be introduced starting in 2026."
  • "Indonesia's takaful market is entering a new phase of expansion, supported by a sharp rise in financial literacy....The Sharia Economy Vision 2029, integrated within Visi Indonesia Emas 2045, outlines the country's ambition to become the world's leading halal and sharia economy by 2029."
  • "The Kano State Shura Council [Nigeria] on Monday held a closed-door session with Islamic cleric Malam Lawan Shu'aibu Abubakar, popularly known as Triumph, to discuss allegations of blasphemy." According to Council Chairman Wazirin Kano, the meeting was "not a court session but a discussion between the Council and the accused. Whatever we do here will be forwarded to the government for further consideration."
  • "Halal barbecue [is] carving out a growing space amid Texas cuisine. Dishes featuring meat butchered according to Islamic standards [are] beginning to be recognized – and enjoyed – even by non-Muslim diners."

 CASES, FATWÄ€S, LEGISLATION ON ISLAMIC LAW

  • "Senators John Cornyn of Texas and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama have introduced the No Sharia Act, which aims to prohibit the application of Sharia Law across the United States." Similarly, "Representative Hillary Cassel has filed legislation in the Florida Legislature to prohibit courts and agencies from using Sharia."   • "Human Rights Watch urged Iraq to repeal its newly adopted Jaafari Personal Status Code, calling it 'deeply discriminatory' and a legal framework that reduces women to second-class citizens. The law, approved by Iraq's parliament on August 27, was drafted by Shiite religious authorities following amendments to the country's Personal Status Law in February 2025. It allows couples to choose whether their marriage, divorce, child custody, and inheritance are governed by the 1959 Personal Status Law or by Jaafari jurisprudence."
  • In Azerbaijan, "authorities are working on additional regulatory measures to promote the development of Islamic finance in the country, including amendments to the Civil Code, Banking Law and Tax Code, with the key proposal being an exemption of Islamic finance transactions from value-added tax."
  • "The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has officially declared a fatwa that the Work Accident Insurance Program (JKK) and Death Security (JKM) organized by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan are in accordance with sharia principles."
  • In Kerala (India), "a growing number of Muslim couples are turning to the Special Marriage Act (Section 15) to secure equal inheritance rights for women."
  • "In a landmark ruling in Zoharbee & Anr. v. Imam Khan (D) thr. LRs. & Ors. [2025 LiveLaw (SC) 1014], the Supreme Court of India reaffirmed the settled principles of inheritance under Mohammedan law, holding that a Muslim widow without any children is entitled to only one-fourth share in her deceased husband's estate."
